Mac OS X going the way of the Dodo?

Posted by ScrewdriverClock - April 28th, 2010

Being an avid tech fanatic, I keep up on various news media sites, blogs and the like for the newest news relating to tech. Today I was looking on one of my favorite sites, Engadget.com. With the announcement of WWDC '10, the yearly tech show for Apple, there was one odd quirk about this year's promo. For one, it appeared to be focused entirely on the Apple iPhone and iPad, with their logo featuring a swirl of "app" icons and the phrase, "The center of app universe". Looking further into the few snippets available on the conference, the yearly ADA's, or Apple Developer Awards, are exclusively for mobile applications this year, and the desktop applications and showcasing of their flagship OS appears to be absent from the agenda. Given the extreme success of the iPod Touch and iPhone OS as a whole, there seems to be a little less focus on the desktop side of the spectrum in Cupertino. Meanwhile with the upcoming release of Windows 7 Phone, Microsoft is announcing a 100 million sales of Windows 7 liscenses since Oct 2009, making it the fastest selling Windows OS ever. Is it possible that Apple-given the less than stellar sales of OS X 10.6 compared to their portable devices- is going to drop out of the Desktop OS race and focus solely on the mobile field where they obviously dominate?
